The incarnation is one of the most glorious—and most mysterious—realities of our faith. The eternal Son of God became a man.

Why? Why was this necessary for our salvation? What did Jesus accomplish simply by becoming human? And what difference does the incarnation make for the way we live right now, in 2026?

This Advent, we’re going to slow down and wrestle with those questions together. We’ll spend three Sunday mornings reading and discussing On the Incarnation by Athanasius, the legendary 4th-century Christian theologian. It’s a small book, but it has shaped Christian thinking about Jesus for centuries—and for good reason. Athanasius has a remarkable way of making the incarnation feel not merely like something we believe, but something that should leave us astonished by Jesus.

Our goal isn’t simply to understand the incarnation better. It’s to see Jesus more clearly, love Him more deeply, and enter Christmas with a greater sense of awe at what God has done.
